Public Health Connect

Public Health Connect

I completed my Capstone Internship at Public Health Connect, a consulting and community-building organization based in Indianapolis that helps mission-driven nonprofits and community partners strengthen their impact through strategic grant funding, program planning, and public health support. Their work focuses on connecting community needs with sustainable funding, strengthening organizational capacity, and advancing equitable health outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities and Projects

As a Grant Research Intern, I was responsible for identifying and researching grant opportunities for nonprofit organizations in Indiana and beyond. I researched and applied for sponsorship packages, contributed to award applications, and supported proposal development. Additionally, I participated in meetings with nonprofit leaders and CEOs to better understand organizational goals and funding priorities, which helped tailor grants and sponsorships to their needs.

  1. Supporting the team by conducting targeted grant research and funding analysis to identify opportunities that align with nonprofit and public health goals.

  2. Summarizing key eligibility requirements, funding priorities, and deadlines to help inform proposal strategies.

  3. Contributing to grant tracking systems and organizing research deliverables.

  4.   Gathering community-level data and background research to strengthen funding proposals.

  5.  Participating in team meetings and receiving mentorship on professional research workflows.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

One of my main learning objectives was to develop strong research skills in identifying and evaluating grant opportunities. I successfully met this goal by consistently finding relevant funding sources and understanding eligibility criteria. Another objective was to improve my professional communication and collaboration skills, which I achieved through regular meetings, check-ins with my supervisor, and interactions with leaders such as CEOs of nonprofits. I also aimed to gain a better understanding of nonprofit funding structures, which I accomplished by actively participating in the grant writing and sponsorship process. Overall, I met my learning objectives and gained valuable, hands-on experience in the nonprofit and public health sectors.
