Global Health in the News
Global Health in the News Overview
This piece is a “Global Health in the News” overview for my Global Public Health class, analyzing the post-war public health crisis in Gaza Strip. It examines the widespread impact of war on healthcare infrastructure, population health, and global health systems, while highlighting key challenges such as displacement, disease outbreaks, and limited medical resources.
What I learned
Through this assignment, I gained a deeper understanding of how conflict can devastate healthcare systems and create long-term public health crises. I learned how factors like infrastructure damage, workforce loss, and limited resources contribute to worsening health outcomes both locally and globally. This project also strengthened my ability to analyze global health issues from a systems perspective and recognize the importance of humanitarian response, policy, and international collaboration in rebuilding healthcare systems. It was especially meaningful because it connected course concepts to real-world events, reinforcing the human impact behind global health challenges.
